Competitor Announcement

The 2019 Warren Jones International Youth Regatta will be taking place from Sunday, 27th January to Friday 1st February, sailed in Perth Waters for the third time and this year hosted by the Royal Perth Yacht Club.

The 17th edition of the Regatta will see a line-up of various National and International competitors from all around the world competing against local sailors; whom are still to be decided by two qualifying events and a Local Wild Card, in the lead up to the event.

Invitations have been sent out this morning to nine lucky competitors to participate in the Warren Jones International Youth Regatta in 2019.

Competitors must confirm their acceptance by 16th November in order to secure their place in the iconic event.

This year, the Organising Authority were inundated with Expressions of Interest from competitors from all around the world. More than double the amount of applications were received than there were positions available, making it a very tough and lengthy decision process for the Organising Authority and the Warren Jones Foundation.

Upon conclusion of this process, Swan River Sailing are excited to announce the plans and invitees for the 17th Annual Warren Jones International Youth Regatta.

The Colin Mullins Youth Regatta is Back!

The name Colin Mullins has always been synonymous with boating. Colin sailed in four Sydney to Hobart races and marketed the iconic 1987 America’s Cup to the world. The Colin Mullins Youth Regatta was commemorated in his name shortly after his untimely death in 2005. Colin Mullins was instrumental in the formation of the Warren Jones Foundation in 2002 and was a Founding member and Chairman of the Warren Jones Foundation Marketing committee.

The Colin Mullins Youth Regatta ran from 2005 – 2011 as a qualifying event to in the lead up to the Warren Jones International Youth Regatta; aiding aspiring youth sailors in their pathways, which Colin was always so fond of.

Due to the high amount of interest in competing in the 2019 Warren Jones International Youth Regatta, and the revitalised energy around match racing in general, the Colin Mullins Youth Regatta will return in 2019 to once again to assist in providing pathways to young aspiring sailors.

In 2019, the Colin Mullins Youth Regatta will be held as a one-day event the day before Australia Day on Friday, 25th January, being the last opportunity for eligible competitors to earn an entry into the 2019 Warren Jones International Youth Regatta.

Swan River Sailing and the Warren Jones Foundation would like to thank all 29 entrants who have expressed their interest to compete on 2019 and are overjoyed with the abundance of excitement that arose.

Swan River Sailing would also like to thank Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club and Royal Perth Yacht Club for hosting qualifying events in the lead up to the 2019 Warren Jones International Youth Regatta – having an increased number of match racing events in Perth can only be a positive step forward for the sport, the competitors and the community.

The 2019 Warren Jones International Youth Regatta will once again feature in the City of Perth Festival of Sail which will again incorporate free discover sailing days for the public over the Australia Day weekend.

Women On Water’, a leadership and networking morning for the business women of Perth will feature on the Thursday morning of the Festival and the ‘Corporate Cup’, a social and networking regatta for local and CBD based Perth Businesses, will feature on the Wednesday evening.

A Beach Clean Up with the River Guardians, the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, Cleana Marina and Keep Australia Beautiful will once again bring a flurry of volunteers to the Perth foreshore, and, finally, the ever-popular Warren Jones Gala Luncheon, will once again be back, this year with local inspiration, Steve Plain, as the keynote address.

Swan River Sailing would especially like to thank the sponsors who are kindly supporting the 2019 City of Perth Festival of Sail including the City of Perth, Amex Corporation, Gibbscorp, Ford & Doonan, UWA Sport, Packer & Co, The Lucky Shag Bar & McNally Group.

The first edition of the 2019 City of Perth Festival of Sail event program will be released over the coming fortnight, along with the availability of tickets to all of the associated corporate, social and fundraising events.
